How it all began…
In early 2020, Will and Haley met the traditional way: on a dating app. Their first date was on a weeknight at a quiet bar in mid-March. Since this was the first time they were going to meet, Will arrived early, like the gentleman he is. He told Haley that he’d be the guy at the bar watching baseball on his phone. Haley, not entirely believing that he would actually be the guy at the bar watching baseball, immediately realized upon walking in, he was not lying.
They had a nervous, but easy conversation for a couple hours. They talked about their families, passions, friends, jobs, and so many other topics covered on a first date. It became obvious very quickly to Will that he had found someone he might see a future with. Haley knew immediately that Will was a good guy, but had always been guarded, so the realization that Will was someone she could truly see a future with took longer. Over time it became clear to Haley that they shared many of the same values, and values that she hoped she would find in her future husband. They both wanted to continue exploring their connection, but soon came to find that it would need to be put on hold due to the pandemic.
After Haley very responsibly rejected a few second dates requests, they decided it was best to continue getting to know each other over text, and would hopefully see each other in person in the not-so-distant future. They fell into a certain texting cadence: They’d send longer texts, three or four at a time, and the other would wait a few days to respond. Will would ask to see Haley every couple months, and she very kindly kept saying no, but always for the right reasons. These weeks and months of rejections did not deter him.
Finally, in January of 2021, Haley agreed to a second date(!!!). They planned a picnic in Venice Beach, but unfortunately had to postpone. Haley was so sweet and apologetic, and asked if waiting one more week would be ok. Will was certainly alright with waiting longer; after having waited for more than 40 weeks, what was one more!? (it was, in fact, only 2.3% longer). They agreed to meet the following weekend, but it was raining, so the picnic was no longer an option and restaurants and bars were closed. The only viable choice was to go to Will’s apartment, have some wine, talk and watch a movie – a tad aggressive for a second date. Will picked Haley up from her apartment and was waiting outside holding an umbrella to walk her to his car door. This small, but sweet gesture, was the start of Haley realizing how wonderful Will is. They drove back to his apartment and sat on opposite ends of the couch and began talking.
They talked for a couple hours, and Haley started to get more comfortable. Her eyes narrowed and darted around Will’s apartment – the prying questions began: “What’s the story with that aluminum parrot?”, “Why is your workstation so messy?”, “Why this?”, “What’s that”… Finally, having seen some of the sass, Will suddenly knew she was the person he wanted to be with. She was smart, family-oriented, independent, practical, thoughtful, sassy, sweet, stunning, laughed at his terrible jokes (now she largely ignores them), and seemed to just be a good and genuine person. The feeling was mutual for Haley – she knew there was a reason they continued texting for 10 months and she soon remembered why after spending a short amount of time with him. After a long second date, Will took Haley back home. Before he even got back to his apartment he texted the guys in a group chat:
“Boys”
“Just dropped a girl off from date 2”
“I’m gonna get wifed”
Over the next few weeks and months they continued getting to know each other, and in the blink of an eye, two years flew by. Two years filled with many wonderful memories – memories with family, friends and loved ones. Memories filled with laughter and love which would last a lifetime.
On September 30th, 2023, Will asked Haley to marry him, and Haley said a very happy and tearful “Yes!”.
They are both so lucky to have found the other. They could not be more excited to start this new chapter, and can’t wait to celebrate with you on March 29th, 2025!
